I need your help, please. I was just hacked 5 days ago through your program (OR IT "APPEARED" TO BE FROM HERE); 100% my ignorant stupidity for believing he was a Microsoft Technician fixing a virus that locked up my laptop and I allowed acess. I screenshotted the hackers log-in ID and password on Remote Utilities (although probably fake info!) You need to be aware of what happened and all the info I screenshotted. I found the Remote Utilities folder on my hard drive with a log report etc. I'm not using that device any longer. How much can I learn from you and the remote session about WHO HE IS AND WHAT INFO HE CRIMINALLY STOLE FROM MY DEVICE? I have reported it to the authorities at local and federal levels. I realize now how stupid I was, but the damage is beyond explainable. Can somebody PLEASE contact me through email?

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

100% my ignorant stupidity for believing he was a Microsoft Technician fixing a virus that locked up my laptop and I allowed acess.

This is a classic technical support scam.

ou need to be aware of what happened and all the info I screenshotted. I found the Remote Utilities folder on my hard drive with a log report etc. I'm not using that device any longer. How much can I learn from you and the remote session about WHO HE IS AND WHAT INFO HE CRIMINALLY STOLE FROM MY DEVICE?

Our Host log only details when the connection happened, what Internet-iD code was used and what connection modes were used. Unfortunately, there is no more granular information such was what files where moved/copied etc.

As for who they were - our server log contains information about the originating IP address. When we are contacted by the police or any other authorized bodies we disclose this information to them according to our privacy policy (see "Government and law enforcement agencies" ).

I have reported it to the authorities at local and federal levels. I realize now how stupid I was, but the damage is beyond explainable. Can somebody PLEASE contact me through email?

You can use this email address privacy@remoteutilities.com and also give it to the police. We will be happy to provide any assistance with the investigation.

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. Should I email the ID/password screenshot to you or is that info usually bogus also?

The Internet-ID code will help us find the pertaining information in the server log, i.e. information about that specific session , including the originating IP address. But since even the IP address is considered "personal information" by GDPR (which we must follow as a European company and/or having customers in Europe) we can only disclose that to the police.

This is not good enough. You NEED to make your program safer, or you deserve to be shamed all over the internet, or marked as a malware forever. Your program is IDEAL for scammers.

You need to stop using the Internet if you're going to make nonsensical complaints like this. Use your head next time.

The user installed this at the request of the fake technician. The user is stupid and needs to be educated, not take away all the tools. The same thing can be done with 100 legitimate purpose software, this isn't specific to Remote Utilities.

Do you request kitchens stop using knives because criminals can stab people?

Seriously, you don't understand this is a user problem, not a software problem.
