Host Owner wishes Access
Support level: Pro
Thanks Pauline ....
I assume they can use the same ID address I do but I'd like them to have their own passcode different from the one I use. Is it possible I can retain the passcode I use to get to their systems, but they can have a separate passcode to get to their host?
(modified reply) = Well that didn't work. I tried installed the Viewer onto their home desktop and used the same ID to access their laptop and the result was surprising. It logged on and immediately started recreating the connection in a way hard to describe, almost in a connection loop. Fortunately, the X-Out was available to stop the loop. I contacted the user and asked them to try it. Same result and they were able to X-Out. So, using the same ID with two different licenses doesn't work, or it could be the use of the same ID+same Passcode. Not sure. I plan to screen capture this phenomenon. I cold upload an image for review. Not sure if I could upload a screen capture.

Host Owner wishes Access
Support level: Pro
I'm a 2-Pro license. Occasionally I've been asked by one of the Host owners if it's possible for them to access their own personal computer at work from their own desktop at home. Both devices are in my Address List for periodic servicing/tutorials. How could this be done without offending RU licensing? In other instances, I've recommended a different remote program.
I'vfe thought about the possibility of a Host owner having a free RU account just for that purpose but have never tried it nor will I without questions and research.
Thanks for any information you can provide.

Nice trick and worked well. I tested it couple times yesterday and couple times today with multiple logins. My license on his Viewer is still there. I did remotes fr om my location as well as from his at the same time. If it stays that way, all is well. My next test is the Flash Portables. I very rarely need to remote from on the road but I have laptop I would use for that. I have 2 computers at home with Viewer loaded allowing me to frequently view 2 remotes constantly. My friend needs his Flash Remote at his church wh ere remote to another in house computer is preferred rather than struggling with medical issues to get to it. So far, and this is about the extent of our RU needs, RU has performed admirably and I'm now very confident the support is most excellent. I'm glad I found Remote Utilities.
I'm hoping that RU will come up with the "sorta promised" beta Mac version before the end of May 2025.
I'll be watching.
Thanks again Miss Pauline for your very helpful support.

I really appreciate the fast response and suggestion. I tried this exactly as described without reading this information. I installed the viewer on the 2nd user's computer, applied my license, imported my current address book, confirmed and separated by 2 folders, one containing mine, and one containing his. I was logged into one of his and asked him to log into the same one. The "your computer is being accessed...." prompt appears in the bottom right just like a free account. After a few more attempts on different computers with the same results, I checked his license, and my imported license into his viewer was gone and a prompt talking about his trial period needed upgraded soon if he was to continue. The problem seems to be, he's in a different part of the town on a different IP Address. We are not on the same network. Is there something that can be done to allow him to be the second user?
I just logged into his computer and checked his viewer. It's on 30 trial with 23 days left. That's why the "access warning" above the system tray. Although my license imported during viewer setup, it's gone now and will not re-import. The computer list remains in tack. I'm open for suggestions.... Thanks

I've been reading, researching and experimenting as much as possible utilizing my recently acquired 2 user Pro account. I've examined the RU Server info and I'm not comfortable with it. My computers are not 24/7 nor do I have a dedicated server at my location, and according to the information, for my second user to be able to do his remotes, this would have to be so. I also prefer staying away from placing my address book anywhere in the cloud especially with DropBox and similar. I don't have an account with them and prefer not to. Is there any other way to "RU legally and easily" have 2 and only 2 users using the same or copy of the host list, without using a sync'd address book or setting up a server? This was not a problem with Splashtop and couple others for they had the account control at their site which their programs accessed. We would have stayed with them, but they focused on more corporate and left use basic users behind. I'm beginning to think I may have over-bought based on my simple needs. A single user RU account serves me well enough. If another simpler option can't be found to include a friend, I have 8 days to find another remote service for his 15 computers that we can both use. The reply will be interesting and appreciated no matter what.
Same Free License on 2 Computers

Little late getting around to this but wanted to say thanks Trent for the advice. I have another question if you please. I've accepted a 2-plus license even though it's currently in trial, I plan to keep it. My question is, if I have a host that needs a single access to their own work computer at another location, is it possible for them to have a free license to access that one computer, without breaking rules of my plus license? Their host work computer will never be part of my host list.

I guess I was thinking that the address book and server were to be accessed by the second computer second location each time his logon was needed. We've seen other remotes do similar and that became a problem when the original licensed computer was offline. Our more successful and simpler access methods were online via the company's website. This one is different.
Thanks for the information and it gave me much to think about and experiment with. Us ole fogies (76 am I), occasionally need more time and in this case, 30 days might not be enough. Even with the last remotes my friend and I experienced, we learned something new every day, but needed very few features.
We're very simple users, helping others who have need of personal computer care. I'm going to go for the RU install and see if I can grasp this before my trial runs out and becomes permanent as it has already been paid. Thanks again for the help.

The are two different computers, mine at my location, and his at his home 20 miles away. I'm trying to keep my computer fr om being a server. As I understand it, my computer would have to be an RU Server for his computer to sync to in order to view and access the computer list, and for me to be able to add him as the second user, another new concept for me. I'm trying to get this all working before my trial runs out. If not completed by then, I'll have to reduce my license from 2 to one user and find a different route for him. A portable method is also being studied for when I am on the road and need to connect to anything, and he is at the church wh ere he needs to connect to certain church computers within the building. Our current remote allowed for these things but changed remoting some of these features, crippling out needs. This is why we are seeking the change.

Scenario: a 2 user plus account alternative to RU Server address book syncing. One user (the owner) has the entire list of computers in his address book on his computer, his viewer. The other user in a different location, has his viewer installed on his computer with an imported list from the primary viewer altered to display only those computers he needs access to. Is this permissible without breaking RU rules?
Codec Window on Host Desktop
Support level: Pro
From a newbie with many questions ... I'm sure this has been addressed before, but my research has turned up nothing to show me how to remove the codec windows in upper right had corner of host desktop. Most discussions say it can't be done, only changed per codec selection. I'd appreciate some information on this. Thanks in advance ...
