RDP Confusion

I am a little confused about the use of RDP and how it relates to Remote Utilities.
When you select RDP as an option, are you still using RU or are you using Microsoft's Utility? Are you using RU but with the RDP Protocol? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using the RDP option? Is there a KB article or Help Topic that explains it. I didn't find anything.

Yes, the RDP mode allows you to launch the native Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client from within Remote Utilities and connect to a remote computer using the RDP protocol.

Is there a KB article or Help Topic that explains it.
