2FA for Remote Locations

Hi

I have the very latest RU Viewer and Hosting installed and that is working well. I liked the idea of 2FA and so enabled that, which is also working well.

I use RU simply because I have a headless PC that I use for media sharing and can now access it from my laptop or main PC which is great. I take my PC out with me and so that's the reason for addeding 2FA.

My 'problem' is that when I am at home, I still need to enter a 2FA key and so would like to know if it is possible for the app to tell when on a local LAN and if so, bypass the 2FA requirement. This then gives the best of both, easy access when local and 2FA when 'Out and about'.

Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, this is not possible because the 2FA option is set on the Host (remote) side and it's either enabled for a given Host or not. Besides, it works independently of authentication methods and on top of them, i.e. if you enable 2FA it will be required to log in to that Host regardless of the authentication method you use.

OK, noted. Can I make a suggestion then. Let the Host have the option to bypass the 2FA when a local or perhaps a range of known IP's access the server.

The 2FA is good to stop the unwanted logins but its also a PITB when you want to log in locally.

Hi Paul,

Just to clarify your request: are you suggesting an "Also skip 2FA" option be added to the Host → IP Filter settings, specifically for whitelisted IP addresses or ranges?

That’s how I interpret it based on your description. Let me know if I’ve understood correctly.
