Can only connect to RU server through local IP

i am currently evaluating whether to switch from my current remote access software package which is a recurring SAAS model that gets more expensive every year.
i found remote utilities through some recommendations on an online forum.
i've been able to test most features and although not quite as good as my current setup there are some features that are indeed better.
i'm close to pulling the trigger and purchasing the Pro license but not until i can figure out my main issue
i need to install and run RU server.  not for auth but mainly for the sync'd address book feature.
i constantly need to add/remove clients and use multiple pc's for access so a sync'd database is crucial.
i can manually sync using one-drive and google drive but dont like having to export/import after every change.
so here's my problem i cant get the viewer to sign into the RU server through a WAN address.
i can get it to connect if i configure a local ip connection.
yes, i have even tried manually opening the ports in my firewall even though i shouldnt have to.
yes the service seems to be running ok.
i have also tried setting the RU server as a DMZ in my router and completly turning off my firewall.
i am able to successfully forward port 5670 and connect the remote server app through the wan.
when i run from a command prompt Test-NetConnection 173.32.xxx.x –port 5655 it comes back as successfull connection.
i have even tired configuring the RU server on 2 other PC's with same problem.  all windows 11.
i have even tried installing on my google cloud server running windows server r12 with same problem.

any suggestions would be appreciated. my current saas subscription is about to expire and if i cant find an acceptable alternative i'll have to renew and wait till next year to try again.

thanks
jim
Hello Jim,

Thank you for your message.

First, you might be able to eliminate the need to use RU Server. If you're the only user of the Viewer, you can use the Portable Viewer option. All configuration and address book files will reside in the same folder as the main executable, allowing you to run just one instance of the Viewer. You can use it from a USB stick or cloud storage (like Dropbox), in which case all your address books and configuration files will automatically "sync" by virtue of being stored in the same folder.

If you’re using a USB stick, make sure to protect your address book by enabling address book encryption. Also, consider using backups to prevent data loss or corruption.

If the portable option doesn’t work for you, please let us know, and we’ll help you troubleshoot the server issue. Please note that RU Server might be overkill for a single-user configuration, especially if you're only using specific features like address book synchronization.

Hope this helps!
From your description, it sounds like you are trying to connect to server, within the same lan.
If that is the case, then you would connect using the IP address. Only when you're out of your local lan, would you need to connect using hostname. There might be some static routes that you could enter into your router that would allow loopback. Hope this helps.

i figured it out by simply deleting and creating a new connection.
so i have now successfully installed the server to a cloud pc.
i have successfully created a one click mis and used to install on 5 machines for testing, and everything seems fine.

but know i need some guidance and would honestly prefer to actually speak to someone about my questions.
i dont like that i cant open a support ticket until i buy a license first.
my question is i want to buy a 5 user pro license but i want it so each user can only see their own clients.
they need to be able to manage and add/delete to their own folders.
i dont even know if this is possible.
actually 2 of the users will need access to the same set of clients.
can i get a phone call to have someone show me how thisworks.
i dont want to rely on a message board for something thats going to cost me over $2500.
Hello Jim,

This will require using RU Server. You need address book sync, which provides the following capabilities:

- Cloud-based address book: Create a copy of your address book on RU Server and enable each Viewer signed in to the server to sync with this address book. This is a two-way, real-time synchronization, ensuring that RU Server and all connected Viewers have the latest version of the address book, provided they are signed in to the server.

- Configure access permissions for different folders within the address book for specific users. You will need to create these users in the RU Server Address Book Manager. Please refer to the documentation linked above for detailed instructions.

actually 2 of the users will need access to the same set of clients.

You can simply add these two user accounts to the same group and set group permissions.

Do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
