Help with initial setup - cannot connect

Hello,

If the remote computer successfully connects to the GMS and is waiting for incoming connection, then the problem is certainly on the Viewer side.

Please, check this KB article and especially points 2,  3, 5, 6 , 9 (make sure the GMS address/port are the same on both Viewer and Host sides), and 11.

You can also send a private message via the forum to me with the following info:

- your gms IP address (or DNS if used) and port
- you Internet ID for the remote PC which is currently online and shows as idle in your GMS

So I can try to connect from my place. If the connection is successful, I should see a password prompt.

Error. Another user is running this copy of R-Viewer

I recommend rebooting the PC and then trying to run the Viewer. Let me know if that didn't help.

Hello,

The Close button (the red button at the top right corner of the window) in the Viewer hides the program into the system tray . To quit the Viewer use File -> Exit command.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

First, let me elaborate on three possible connection types:

1. Direct connection by an IP address or DNS name. In this case no intermediary server is used. Viewer connects directly to Host.

2. Internet-ID connection: hosted by us[/B]. This is the simplest setup - just follow this tutorial to get everything up and running in seconds. You don't have to change any ports.

3. Internet-ID connection hosted by you (RU Server).[/B] You point both Host (Settings -> Internet ID connection settings) and Viewer (selected connection -> Properties -> General tab -> "Change" button) at your RU Server. Note that for Host this setting is global whereas for Viewer it's on a per-remote-connection basis, that is you can have records in your address book that use different types of connection. Once you specified your RU Server instead of the default ID server at both ends, use the ID of the remote computer in order to connect just like you would do if you used the second type above.

I would recommend you exactly follow the RU Server documentation as it explains everything you need to know for this advanced (yet powerful) option.

Don't hesitate to write here if you didn't have any success with configuration.

I've got to say, so far I'm really liking Remote Utilities (and I've used gotomypc and  [censored] for years). Still figuring out a few things, but that's normal.

Thanks for using Remote Utilities! Don't hesitate to share with us your suggestions right here on the forum. Though we have certain priorities and implement new features in the order of most impact/importance, we always include user suggestions to our wish list and further to the roadmap if they fit our product's general paradigm well.

Have a good weekend!  :)

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your post.

Currently, there is no way to set a master password for the entire address book. But this makes a great feature suggestion and we'll definitely consider it for one of our future releases.

More options

I'd like to add to what Anton has said. Namely, we are planning to add a simpler version of the chat right into the Full control / View window. The old Chat mode will still be there in case you need more chat features. It's only that the simple chat window/pane (at the right hand side of the screen) will allow you to quickly exchange messages with the remote user during remote support without switching to a separate chat window.

Feature Suggestion: PowerShell

100% agree with this post.

your software looks great and given there are 10 licenses for free I would expect 99% of logmein to move to you within a few weeks.

the real downfall of the iOS version is not being able to log into an account and having your machines listed.

It does work very well though and you have me hooked.

Thanks

Damon

Thanks for the kind words, Damon. We'll do our best to improve the product even more with each new release  :)

How To De-Register A Host (Free Version0

Hi Malcolm,

Thank you for your question.

You can do it either remotely or while being physically present at the Host computer.

Remote un-register

Right-click on the connection entry in your Viewer address book, select the "Register remote Host" menu item, then the Unregister radiobutton and click OK.

Unregistering locally

Right-click on the Host icon and select Settings for Host. Click on the Settings button, select Enter license key,  then select the Unregister option and click OK.

Hope that helps.
