No character keyboard on my Android viewer

RU viewer for Android version 6.9.4.0m11.22.0 running on Samsung S7
RU Host version 6.10.10.0 running on Windows 7 Pro Service pack 1 (but I have the same problem on other Windows machines with the same host version running)
I can connect to the host. When I hit the keyboard icon at the bottom right of the screen and then press 'keyboard' I can only step between the numeric keypad and two function/control keypads. How do I get to the character keypad?
Another slightly strange thing is that the numeric keypad has three blank keys along with the '0' key on the bottom row.
Otherwise, RU seems to me a great app.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
