Blank screen, cannot access host

Hi Conrad,
I agree that 20-30 seconds for the locked screen is a long time.
Regarding the blank screen, I just updated the graphics driver to the newest release.  I have an AMD Radeon RX 580 and upgraded to Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.9.2 Recommended (WHQL).
When I connect, it will quickly flash two shadow borders and then they disappear and the screen stays black.  It's as if the rendering isn't happening.

Update: I tried to get a screen grab using the recording tools and the video is just dark so that wasn't working.  I was able to snap a screenshot as the connection was occurring.  See attached.

Thanks,
Aaron

Blank screen, cannot access host

Hello Polina,
I followed all the steps outlined in the KB article above, restarted the host service and am still having issues.

As an aside, I notice that if you stop the host, using the option in RU Host or on the start menu, the task tray icon disappears.  When the service is restarted the task tray icon doesn't return.

I restarted the Host machine and am still getting a blank screen.  Restarting is not ideal because that machine runs the VM that contains the RU Server instance.

Yes, it's possible to try connecting.  I could use some assistance on how to sort this out.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hello,
I really want to move fr om my current remote solution to RemoteUtilities, but I seem to be having issue after issue.

Here are a couple examples:
I am trying to connect to a host in my own network, using the Internet-ID connection, and all I get is a blank screen.  I've searched the community and have seen everything from "use legacy settings", which results in the host denying the connection and doing a countdown loop, so reboot the host.  FYI.. if this host weren't in my own network wh ere I could RDP into it, how would I actually reboot the host if the viewer cannot connect?  Here is the kicker... the small icon in the viewer shows the host with the lock screen.  But when I try to connect, it attempts to connect, then flickers, then goes blank.

Another issue is the time it takes for the viewer to notice the screen has been locked or the user logged out.  In that "other" remote software, it is instantaneous to see the locked screen.  In Viewer, it takes the better part of 20-30 seconds.

I am running all current software: viewer, host and RU server.

RU server address book lost all entries

Hi Polina,
I don't think you are understanding my issue.  I did not migrate the RU server installation.  It is the same RU server I've had setup for a few weeks now.  I had created a few address books, users and groups.
After returning from being out of town, that is when I discovered the Viewer couldn't authenticate to the server.  At that point I logged into the server and that is when I discovered that all address books, users and groups were no longer there as in deleted.
I located the \data directory you mentioned above, but those were the address books that were now showing as offline (and couldn't sync with the RU server address book).
At that point I recreated all the address books, users and groups on the RU server.  They sync'ed up with the Viewer once I was able to authenticate the viewer with the RU server.
Some Windows Updates needed to be installed on the RU server so I rebooted that computer, which also rebooted the RU server.  Now the viewer is saying those newly created address books (and all the connections I'd established) are not offline and won't sync.

Why can't the viewer and RU server sync back up after the RU server goes offline?  When I attempt to Add Folder to an address book in the viewer, I get the following error:
Address book error - Cannot perform action.  The sync server is inaccessible or offline.

However, each connection I have created under each address book is showing as online.

I noticed I was having an issue authenticating to my RU server.  After logging into the server, I found that all entries, users and groups had been deleted/removed.  I have been out of town for two weeks and haven't touched the RU server setup.  I can confirm I had cloud address books because my viewer still shows them (although they now report offline).  Is there a backup of the address book I could restore?

RU server version: 2.7.9.0

Help with RU Server

Hello,
I am trying to move from  [censored] to Remote Utilities. I have setup an RU server, confirmed the port forwarding is working and have the RU server settings in a Host I'm trying to connect to. Granted, the host is in my internal network, but I'm still using my DNS address which is being routed properly.
The host is setup and connected using the custom RU server.  Host status is: Ready for connection.

The issue I'm running into is authentication.  I've spent hours reading the different knowledge base articles about proper setup and can't figure out the Authorization method.  I assume I want Custom server security which I establish at the server by setting up users/groups in the address book.

However, when I go to add the host to the viewer, the connection times out.  The viewer will briefly flash offline, then quickly switch to online.  I'm looking for some assistance on getting the Authorization method setup correctly.

I have setup an "admin" user on the server and have authenticated the viewer to the custom RU server, however I can't establish a connection to the host when using the same permissions.

Server: Win10, v2.7.9.0 (2790)
Host: Win10, v6.10.10.0 (69110)
Viewer: Win10, v6.10.10.0

If I can get a little help getting this up and running, I'm happy to pay for a support license.  I just want to ensure I can successfully add clients to the custom RU server.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Polina,
The service is installed, running and set to Auto.  I confirmed all of those things prior to posting.

I also started the host manually by running the Start Host in the Windows search box.  I then went into Services (services.msc) and confirmed RMANService is running (Remote Utilities - Host).

rfusclient.exe is running on the host PC.  However, rutserv.exe is running twice - once under my username and once under SYSTEM.

I haven't rebooted the host PC because it running Hyper-V with running virtual machines.  I'll restart the host PC now.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hello Polina,
I am having a similar issue as Brian.  I installed the Host and can see Remote Utilities - Host folder in the start menu, but it does not display in the system tray.
I have open the host settings and checked and then unchecked the "Hide tray icon menu" (thinking it is some sort of bug).  No matter what I do, the host icon does not display in the system tray.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Aaron
