We are moving our RU Server install fr om an old 2008 Windows server to a new 2019 Windows server install on a Virtual Machine set up on a Hypervisor but are unable to get a connection when inputting the correct info for both Host & Viewer.

Is there anything specific or unique that needs to be set up that we are missing?

Or does RU Server not work on a Hypervisor set up?

We have tried disabling the Firewall entirely and it made no difference and our settings are otherwise exactly the same as they were in our other "regular" server.

Kind of lost as to wh ere to go from here so help appreciated

Reverted back for now.

Updating 20 machines is impractical, that is a job for another week

That said, you don't have to upgrade to the next version. You can keep using v 6.x.x.x with your version 6 key forever. Simply uninstall the Viewer 7.x.x.x , download and re-install Viewer 6 from the old versions page.

In which case I will leave the Hosts on the old versions until I hear differently.

We recommend that you avoid version mismatch. You should either upgrade your hosts if you decide to use Viewer 7.x.x.x or downgrade to Viewer 6.x.x.x if not, so that your Viewer matches your hosts.

New features introduced in version 7.x.x.x either won't work at all with the outdated Hosts or will work incorrectly. Again, Remote Utilities is dual software - upgrading just one component is not enough to upgrade the whole product.

Hope that helps.

And herein lies the reason why you should have put a mailshot out

Now I need to uninstall, reinstall etc etc...

For future massive updates please plan ahead to avoid these headaches

Found the answer here: https://www.remoteutilities.com/support/forums/forum1/1759-reinstalling-my-license-key-in-ru-viewer-7.0.0.1

There really should have been a mailshot AND an alert in the program that "Updating will mean you need to relicense the software"

Problem now is it wants to update all the Hosts, but multiple users will still be using the older Viewer, will that matter (I assume that yes it will as it seems that any update means more work when it comes to RU).

In which case I will leave the Hosts on the old versions until I hear differently.

So today I opened RU like usual

It said the Viewer can be updated, so I did.

It has decided to forget my license key

So I find the email that contains said license fee but I can not copy paste it in, it wants me to "drag" it there. How? I was never sent a file from RU only the license key in an email from PayProGlobal (not even from RU themselves!)

How do I re-enter it (nevermind how ridiculous it is that I have to re-enter it everytime they update the program!)

I am in the UK, my host and viewer both have UK Keyboard set.
Yet when I remote into the host I type and it is in the USA arrangement.
I can not find anyway to change this as the settings on the host already show as UK Keyboard.

Right the need to actually reboot the server is a real problem as it runs various important tasks 24/7 (hence why I asked).

When possible I will try your fix but finding a time to reboot the server will not be easy.

My 2nd concern would be that whenever a product has "Beta" in its name I have a worry it will then need a further update to the Full version, problem being as I said rebooting the server is not an easy operation.

Plus updating everyones PCs will take an age too.

Any plans to implement Auto-Updates that do not require reboots any any stage in the future?

Replying to this thread as it describes exactly the issue we are having using RU Server.

In a nutshell:

Viewer is 6.10.10.0
RU Server is 2.7.9.0

Not sure how to check host versions remotely but I am not seeing the update alert triangle on any host PCs.

To get some background:

We have a number of PCs in the office on our internal network that I remote onto when the staff need something done and also we have remote workers who remote into there office PC from home (and again I remote connect to their home PC if they need an update or help etc..)

I am at the office.

I can connect to any of our office located PCs fine and they do not drop at all for hours and hours.

When connecting from home to office or office to home we get the issue others have described. Sometimes it will be fine for a good hour other times it will drop over and over being connected for anything from 1 min to 10 mins making work a real struggle for our WFH people.

Is this going to be a version issue?
If so how do I update the RU Server version? and does the server need to be rebooted as part of an update?

Or is this more likely an internet issue? (The office internet isnt amazing but it is stable enough that the managing director can use  [censored] connecting from home to the office totally fine with no dropouts whilst the rest of us on the RU Server are dropping the whole time)
If it is related to internet in some way, is there a way to make it hold the connection and wait for data rather than instantly drop the connection? A pause is better than having to login again.

Hope I have made myself clear and given enough info to make a start with.

Many thanks in advance
