I just recently stated using Remote Utilities. My situation is that I wish to manage a router from a remote location so I use a WiFi connected laptop PC located close to the router and then use Remote Utilities to access the PC. In this situation I would like the laptop lid to be closed and for the configuration to be unaffected by the laptop being rebooted. Most of this I have achieved but in the process I have found that two different laptops have different characteristics. An Acer laptop required me to set the "Use legacy capture mode" while an Fujitsu one did not. I had major problems with the Firefox display being distorted and had to use Chrome instead. I am using Remote Utilities - Agent. So it looks like the issues are both hardware and software related. Happy to provide more detail if needed.

I found the following solution which works perfectly on my Acer Laptop:
Make sure that your Laptop lid is open while you do this!
"Here are the steps:
1. Open Device Manager (search it in the Start menu).
2. In "System devices" find "ACPI lid".
3. Open "ACPI lid" properties, and go to the "Driver" tab.
4. Sel ect "Update driver".
5. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software" and "Let me pick.."
6. Uncheck "Show compatible hardware".
7. In "Manufacturer" select "(Standard system devices)", or in Windows 8 and 10, choose Microsoft as the manufacturer - different place, but the hack still works
8. For model, select "Volume manager".
9. Restart the system and it works!"

It is 2022 now and still the same issue persists. I have a Dell laptop with Host installed and none of the above methods are working. It seems that other remoting software has succesfully solved this issue. I like RU, but this is a very serious downside. Have you made any progress? What are we to do? We expect guidance and solutions, but it seems you are waiting this one out?

Hello Tomaz,
Thank you for your message.
Please try enabling the Use legacy capture mode checkbox in the Host Settings -> Other tab and see if this helps to resolve the issue. After enabling the feature please make sure to restart Host in order for the changes to be applied.
In addition, please make sure that your Host and Viewer are updated to the same version (the latest version as of this writing is 7.1.2.0) as the version mismatch might lead to performance issues or some features not working.
Las but not least, please note that this solution for similar issues with the Full Control mode not functioning properly for example, on headless machines, has been included in one of our troubleshooting KB pages here.
Hope that helps.
