One more question. Have you checked the integrity of the Host files in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Remote Utilities - Host installation directory. The files rutserv.exe and rfusclient.exe shoulld be there.

thanks, that is not the issue, i think i already explained that.

Please note that when the Host fails to start, the most common reasons are:
1. Security software (this accounts for 99% of cases).
2. Specific settings on the machine that prevent the Host service from starting, such as certain security policies.

thanks, that was already mentioned, and i replied, that is not the issue.

since i know this is going to happen again.
you are welcome to remote into such a machine and take a look for yourself.

Does the Windows Event log not indicate why the RU host service failed to run after the Windows Update?

Windows 11 24H2 update is soo buggy, I'm not upgrading any of my systems on my network to that version, not right now at least.

this is happened 4 times.
please, see the attached screenshot.

host machine: windows 11 23H2, running RU 7.6.2.0

maybe i did not explain my self well, here are the steps to reproduce.

1. using RU viewer, remote into host
2. run windows 11 update assistant to update to 24H2
3. host reboots
4. using RU viewer, notice that host is offline, i  CANNOT    remote into host machine.
6. on host, cannot start service using service.msc. so i must press the windows key to display the windows start menu, type "start host", run as administrator.

We will try to reproduce the issue exactly as you describe here and let you know. Thanks!

UPD: Our Testing has informed me that they also tested it with Windows Installation Assistant method back on 15 November. But we'll test it again just to confirm.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your patience.

This is to inform you that we’ve tested the scenario out on two different Windows 11 machines and, unfortunately, were unable to reproduce the issue.
In the meantime, perhaps you could consider rolling the update one version back since Windows 11 does support this feature. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Let us know if you have any questions.

thanks but no idea what that means???
please, please, explain in detail exactly what you mean??

what  exactly  do you want me to roll back?
thanks, david

I believe they are asking you to consider rolling back to 23H2. Which, despite the issues you're having with RU, is not a bad idea, given the issues plaguing 24H2 at the moment. List of "known" issues listed here on Microsoft's site: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2

On the other hand, if the previous version of RU works fine, you could use the previous stable version of 7.2.2.0. This is just for your peace of mind, since upgrading to a new version of RU and new version of Windows 11 can be a headache, like what you are experiencing.

Just my suggestion if I were in your situation.

Hi asdffdsa,

Could you please provide the Windows Event logs corresponding to the time when the update was applied and when the Host service failed to start? Please, zip and send via the tickets to avoid accidentally publishing personally identifiable information.

Thanks.
