Beta testing: Remote Utilities for macOS/Linux

I have been testing the Linux Viewer on OpenSUSE 15.2 for the past 3 days and I have been unable to enter passwords containing special characters on the host computer.  I'm not sure which characters aren't working, I'll do some more testing later on to see which keys aren't working.  I'm using US-English keyboard layout on all PC's.

Other than that I occasionally have a problem with connecting to my host computer.  The host window loads briefly and then the Viewer and Host windows crash. After the first crash, subsequently launching the viewer and connecting to a host will crash the viewer again.  Restarting the computer seems to resolve this but it has happened a few times at least.

It's nice to have a viewer in Linux. Can't wait for the Linux host!

In AdwCleaner 8.0.2 settings disable "Ask before rebooting PC" what it does during the cleaning process is close every process and then reboot the PC but if you don't disable that setting there will be a prompt for the user to click OK after all running process's have been quit. It will reboot automatically after you disable that setting & RU will start when the PC is restarted.

Where is the Linux viewer?

Just wanted to thank the RU dev team for working on a Linux version.

Thank you for 6.10.10.0!! I had this issue too, luckily with only 1 client. Updating all to latest version to avoid future headaches.

Restart host fails after Remote settings from Viewer

Whenever I need to enter Remote settings from Viewer and at the end you have to Press OK to restart the remote host, it never restarts successfully, it always needs to be manually restarted either by the client rebooting their PC or opening Start Host or using an alternative remote desktop program to Start Host.
Is anyone else having this problem? I'm using the latest Host, Viewer & RU server as of this writing.

Hello Brian,

You mean direct access, a connection mode similar to Terminal or Remote Registry mode, not just running compmgmt.msc in the Full Control mode?

This would be great if event viewer could be added just like this without needing to log in & disturb the screen.

Hi John,

I sometimes have the same issue when upgrading host's or changing host settings that require restarting the host. It varies from PC to PC & I haven't isolated the cause yet.  I use two different remote programs as a precaution & make sure I'm logged in on my secondary program before doing any host upgrade or host restarts.  In almost all cases rebooting the host computer will auto-start the host with Windows, if this is your only option I'd recommend scheduling a system restart in Task Scheduler to occur just after you upgrade or restart the host on remote machines.

I hope this helps.

Best,
Nijel

Did you try legacy capture mode & installing the monitor driver?    https://www.remoteutilities.com/support/kb/full-control-and-view-mode-isn-t-working-or-is-unstable/

Looks like the 2.7.6.0 server worked on Ubuntu with Wine 3.0.5 according to this report https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=37862
I'd going to do some testing with Linux when I have time. Anyone have a working configuration with Host, Server or Viewer?

If Remote Utilities had Mac & Linux support it would be the best remote program. Period. IMO.
