Address Book

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, you need to manually convert the AD entries into the address book connection entries. However, please note that starting version 7 of Remote Utilities we've introduced a new AD integration method via the RU Server. This new integration mechanism allows your RU Server communicate with the AD domain controller and automatically import computers into the server address book which can also be synched with your Viewer (or even multiple Viewers). For more information please see this blog post.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

Could you please let us know what version of Remote Utilities do you use and if there's any firewall/antivirus software installed on the remote Host machines? In addition, could you please clarify if you had installed a Windows Update before the issue occurred?
Also please feel free to send us the Host logs for examination. You can send both Connection and Installation log files to support@remoteutilities.com.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hello cosmos,

Of course, please feel free to keep using your current installation. Meanwhile, we plan to release an update for RU Server very soon and hopefully we will be able to completely eliminate this issue in the upcoming update.

Hello Kolton,

Thank you for your message.

Could you please clarify if you mean that you need to run Remote Utilities from a portable USB drive? If this is the case, you can use Portable Viewer and Agent modules as they do not require installation and can be stored on portable drives.

As an admin, I only can use a PIV card for administrative actions, which the UAC prompts for. I need the remote PC to detect the PIV card that is connected on the viewer PC.

Do you mean that you need the remote Host to detect the PIV card on the Viewer machine as an authentication method, i.e. to only allow connection for a Viewer with the card present and decline the connection for any Viewer machine without the card?

Looking forward to your reply.

Hello Sean,

Thank you for your message.

Instead it seems as if it's entirely decentralized where each PC has a unique address, unique password/code, and unique 2FA.

Yes, Remote Utilities is a standalone software. Please note that Remote Utilities does not store any connection-related information, including remote access credentials in the accounts on our website as these accounts are needed for the support (Community Forum and the Ticket System) purpose only.

Additionally, there doesn't seem to be a way to save your configuration or profile so I can login from my Phone or PC to the same set of several PC's.

You can share the same address book across several PCs. However, unfortunately, the mobile Viewer does not support a full-fledged address book yet, so you can only add the connections to the mobile Viewer manually.
Here's a guide on how you can share your address book across Viewers.

Finally, is there really no way to safe the 2FA one time password so that I don't have to re-enter it every single time I connect?

Please note that the 2FA feature utilizes OTP (or One Time Password) which cannot be saved as the authenticator app generates new OTP every time. However, you can save the access credentials for other authentication methods, for example, the Single password.

Here's also a Quick Start Guide that might provide some helpful information, help you to set up your Remote Utilities installation and connect to a remote Host machine.

Hope that helps.

Hello Greg,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I will forward the feature suggestion to our development department for a review to see if we can implement it in our future updates.
Meanwhile, we already have some similar features in our wishlist. Namely, a feature that will display a remote Host's idle time in the address book. Unfortunately, we cannot provide any specific ETA on this feature yet.

Please let us know if you have other questions.

Viewer 7.1.1.0 logs into wrong connection

Hello Greg,

Thank you for the clarification.

Perhaps, the issue might be caused by the address book file being somehow damaged or corrupted. Could you please try downloading Portable Viewer or using Viewer on some other machine and try adding these two remote connections to see if the issue occurs this way as well? You can also try adding a new address book to the same Viewer as described here and creating connection entries for the same remote Hosts to see if the issue re-occurs.

Looking forward to your reply.
