Unfortunately, updating a custom installer actually means creating a new installer, there is no way to "inject" updated program files into a ready build.

When it comes to updating Hosts it may be split into two tasks:

1. Creating a new installer for new customers.
2. Updating existing customers' Hosts.

The task #2 should be done with the vanilla installer (or using the Simple update feature) because in this case your remote Host settings including authorization and connectivity data will remain intact, only the program files are updated. If you still decide to use a custom installer for updating remote Hosts you should proceed with caution and carefully pick during configuration which settings you want to update. See About MSI Configurator page for more information on steps 3 and 4 of the configurator.  

In one of the upcoming updates we will implement saving/exporting configurator settings to a file so that you could quickly load your previous choices.

Yes, they are the big guys, that's why antivirus software companies will never dare to say a word even if these guys decide to distrubute trojans all of a sudden :)

Anyway, we will be revamping Agent window, notification window and this warning message soon, combining them into one, more flexible and usable.

Rebooting the remote computer won't work. This message was designed to prevent the use of software for malicious purposes out-of-the-box. It's one thing when a potential hacker patches or otherwise unlawfully modifies the product to be able to silently connect to a victim, and it's an entirely different thing when they can do that with the stock version.

Still, reading your messages I can understand that we may reconsider at the least the position of this message on the screen. It may make sense to move it upwards a bit, halfway the screen along the right edge and make it a bit smaller and less intrusive, yet visible. Would that work for you?

It requires elevated permissions to install, so I think its counter productive and not going to accomplish their goal of preventing malicious installs. If you already have admin rights, the app can be installed manually or with other apps like autohotkey answering automatically. I

Some users may disable UAC at all and may click on a malicious link in an email message and voila - the Host is silently installed on the computer.

Anyway, we will give more thought to this issue now and see if we can come up with a better solution.

Are you going to create an IOS / Linux host installer?

Hello Rob,

This year we are going to release Agent (and possibly Host) for MacOSX, which may also mean Agent/Host for Linux.

As for a Host for mobile devices while we do have these on our wishlist their priority is much lower and it's unlikely that we will be able to release them any time soon.

RU Server Problem

Thank you for the kind words. We do our best to improve Remote Utilities. Unfortunately, more advanced features may not look straightforward at first and do require some digging into documentation which we strive to update as quickly as possible with each program release.

PS: After uninstalling Remote Utilities, the Folder inside the AppData will NOT get deleted! Really dangerous, also the Registry Key will not get deleted had to do that all manually.

First, let me assure you that there is nothing dangerous in it. Almost every Windows program leaves their traces in user directory and in the registry. These files help you pick up your settings and data files where you left them when you uninstalled the program should you decide to install/use it again. Remote Utilities Viewer configuration and data files as well as Host's registry key are harmless - they are not executable files and they cannot work on their own. They only contain configuration information.

Regarding the issue at hand, as our technical support specialist suggested earlier we recommend that you completely re-install the program and try using it "out-of-the-box" without enabling or modifying different options (just leave them default for now). They you can explore and enable various features - e.g. RU server roles - one by one and if you encounter an issue let us know and we will do our best to help you.

Question about keys and licenses

Yes, of course. With a 1-tech license (regardless if it's Pro, Mini or Starter) you can work from multiple computers so long as you are the only person working at any given time. The license type (Pro/Mini/Starter) only governs how many remote endpoints in your Viewer address book you may have. This is unlimited/50/20 respectively.

Host Not Receiving Capital Letters

I recommend that you check your virtual machine software settings, specifically those that govern how keyboard presses are sent from host (virtual machine host) to guest.

Anyway to prevent constant "remote desktop connection" errors?

Hello John,

We examined the logs, it seems that Host is having difficulty connecting to our intermediary server ( id.remoteutilities.com) due to some network reasons. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly what that might be because troubleshooting network problems is beyond the limits of our assistance.

One thing I noticed is the connection IP address is sometimes 192.168.19.4 which would be correct
and then sometimes 127.0.0.1 -- is this a local proxy thats interfering ? or could it be when the

Could you tell me where exactly did you see this line?

or could it be when the OpenVpn VPN is connected -- will be looking in top this also
we use Kaspersky on the two machines that are having problems

If you use VPN between Viewer and Host you are advised to use direct connection instead of Internet-ID connection.

Cannot access hosts shown as online

Please, update your Viewer to the most recent version. The problem might be caused by version mismatch between Viewer and Host.
