Gateway/IP issues

Hello Bobby,

Perhaps, you just need to use a service like no-ip.com. It's free from what I know. Generally, here's what you need to do:

1. Register with no-ip.com and create your own DNS name.
2. Install the No-ip client program on your GMS computer so that it regularly updates your DNS record with new IP address when it changes.
3. IMPORTANT: use your DNS name in the Host and Viewer settings for the custom Internet ID server (replace the IP address with your DNS name).

With this trick you won't have to change Viewer or Host settings each time your GMS IP address changes.

Hope that helps.

Hello James,

Here's where the Internet ID is stored in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Remote Utilities\v4\Server\Parameters\InternetID

It is an XML file in UTF-16 encoding.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi James,

Thank you for the kind words!

" I was wondering if there is any possible way to disable the final popup that states "Software installed... sending e-mail... confirm?" Another words, I'd like the installer to be COMPLETELY silent. Is this possible?

If the option "Generate ID and send it via e-mail" is enabled, then the warning message is shown. This is a necessary security precaution against using Remote Utilities without the remote person knowing they are being controlled/watched.

However, if you do not use that option, the warning message is not shown. But you will need to generate and note down the Internet ID of the remote computer manually or with the help of someone at the remote side.

If what you need is spontaneous/ad hoc support rather than 24/7 unattended access to a remote PC, perhaps the Agent module will be more suitable.  You can configure the Agent in the MSI Configurator too.

Is there any way to read the internet ID and send this along with the other data? I found the registry keys so I could probably do that. I guess I need to disable the e-mail feature though, but still generate the Internet ID. Is this possible?

I'm not sure if the Internet ID is stored in the registry explicitly. Nevertheless, I will ask our developers and get back to you soon.

Hello Keith,

Thank you for your post.

You need to clear the "Do not stretch logo" check box in the configurator. Also, this tutorial provides guidance on how to configure the Agent https://www.remoteutilities.com/support/docs/agent-package/

Hope that helps.

This must be my issue as well.  We're planning a large-scale launch of unattended public-facing kiosks running Windows 8.1, so being able to blank the remote screen while doing maintenance activities is critical.  Was hoping to use RU.  Can you give an ETA for Ver 5.7 with the fix?  Thanks, -Jeff

Hello Jeff,

We are planning to release version 5.7 this spring,  most likely in May.

Hello Paul,

We have added this to our roadmap. Perhaps, not for the nearest version, but definitely for one of the future updates.

Hello Paul,

Thanks for your message. Do you mean keeping the connection alive when you lock/unlock the mobile device?

It may be of note to developers to encourage users to update their MSXML, as this may cause stack overflows and potential heating issues (my northbridge temp is down a bit since the update).  It might also be my system only.  This is my 'play' computer, so it is a constant state of disrepair.

Hello Wes,

Sure, we'll add it to Knowledge Base then. Thanks!
