REQ: Address Book management/functionality

Hi MIke,

It would be very useful to have more features aimed at address books. We have several techs who need to access common computer entries but are located at different locations so using a shared common XML file is not practical.

You are absolutely right. That's why the next thing we have been working on is a more sophisticated web/LAN sync. If all goes well, we'll make it available in one of the nearest releases.

Are there any plans to provide a 'shared' address book, either hosted at your site or via a local GMS? This would be similar to TV 'Contacts' where you can 'send' another user the PC entry.

So far the only way to share the address book is via export/import or using the Address Book Manager (Viewer -> Tools -> Address book manager), in which you add a path to an address book stored in some location, e.g. network location, and then point the Viewer at that address book.

Alternatively, if there where at least PC entry granularity in export/import of address book entries, that would be a good start. Another option might be to implement a 'merge' feature to combine address books with an interface to handle conflicts.

Could you please elaborate more on PC entry granularity. What exactly is meant by this? Thanks!

Connection Problem

Hello,

If the Host shows the blue circle on the icon continuously, then it's unlikely that the issue is on the Host side. Perhaps, the issue is on the Viewer side.

Please, check out this list of possible causes for the problem https://www.remoteutilities.com/support/kb/cannot-connect-using-internet-id-connection/

As for proxy, you probably need to explicitly specify the proxy settings into the Host or the Viewer, depending on which side the proxy is.

To specify the proxy settings:

Host: Settings for Host -> Options - Proxy settings

Viewer: In Viewer you specify proxy settings individually for each connection in Connection Properties -> Network -> Proxy settings.

Hope that helps.

Questions about keys and licenses

Jamie,

Thank you for your your message.

So while I only have 10 machines in service, I have 20 machines in my viewer. One instance of local and remote for each machine. I'm hoping this doesn't put me over a limit.

No. Just the physical remote machines count, not the instances of the same machine.

Another interesting bit of information is that 5 of my machines say "Trail version. Days left: xx.". I see this on my Work viewer location, but not on my Home viewer. So I can see that while exporting and importing the connections, the viewers are not sending license information along with that.

The information about the license on a remote Host updates when you log on to that Host and it's online. But we'll improve this mechanism, perhaps, in the future. E.g. using some sort of cache.

Perhaps there is a way to combine both local and remote machines into one machine?

There's no need for that. You can have as many instances, as you need.

And perhaps there is a good solution for syncing the license key information between the two viewers?

See above. We haven't yet closely looked at this aspect, but we'll take a look.

Thank you for using Remote Utilities.

If say these companies buy their "Own" Remote Utilities Licences, will this allow me to connect to them using my viewer (keeping in mind these are all individual companies).
In short: I would need to be able to see e.g. 40 PC's in my Viewer (all registered to different companies). Hope that makes sense.

Yes, of course, it will. The license is applied on the remote Host, not the Viewer. When the Host is paid for, and the license is applied on it, anyone can connect to that Host.

I will soon add FAQ specifically about the free license to this forum, because it seems like it causes a lot of confusion.

Hi Krzysztof

Seems like the system requirements are ok, but it's hard to say exactly what might cause the issue. Unfortunately, we cannot test the application on each and every Android device for hardware compatibility. Which most likely seems to be the case.

Brian,

Thank you for your interest.

Since you are the primary user of the program and you say that you won't be able to use the program with one console, it is likely that the number of remote PCs is going to exceed 10. Unfortunately, the free license may not be the best solution in this case. I'm sorry the free license doesn't work out for you in this case.

One other thing to check, is there right-click support?

Paul

Yes. Should be "enabled". In security settings for the local machine.

As many of you already know [censored] will no longer gave free access to is service.

I am a advance used and as it i will very often help a friend doing something or fixing something on is computer, i do this for free so it hard for me to pay for a solution but then i found "RemoteUtilities" Awesome tool to remote control desktop and bypass Firewall and NAT-traversal.

I am currently using a free license to control 14 friends computer, working exactly as planned for the NAT-Traversal with the callback feature, i created, very easily i must say, a auto install executable so my friend just have todo 1 click to install the receiver host software.

I do this post in the hope Search engine spider bot will track it and help other user like me find a replacement solution for [censored] for free or at a low cost in comparison to other similar service.

You can be sure i will push this tool with a commercial license at work

Thanks again for this good tool and letting us using it for FREE

Thanks Thanks Thanks and many more thanks will come from my friend i am helping

P.S. You should not censor the word "L0GMEIN" search engine will do the link here and it for you that a big + will come, tips from a SEO expert

Thank you very much for the kind words! We really appreciate your feedback.

Ok, we've removed Logmein from the censored list :)

Blank screen on host

Hello Jeff,

It seems like you have Windows 8 on the remote Host. Due to some "peculiarities" of the screen capture process on that operating system, the blank screen feature does not work properly for now on Windows  8. We have scheduled fixing this in the next minor release (version 5.7).

Thanks!
